Domaine De Pellehaut Harmonie de Gascogne 2010 Rosé

Spring has sprung! It’s gorgeous outside! I’ve seen you grilling with your sandles on and I’m doing it too. So how about a nice dry rosé for the patio, Cape Cod? This rosé is a blend of Merlot, Tannat, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Syrah. It’s just a bit heavier than the rosé’s you may be used to but just as refreshing after a nice chill. And trust me: if you like rosé you’ll love this one.

The nose is floral with red berry and cherry. Man, I love cherries. It tastes like them too, with notes of strawberry and watermelon. And I loooove strawberries.

How can you not have this with your first celebration of spring? It’s perfect for sipping while you get that asparagus perfectly charred and those porterhouses medium rare. Also perfect for celebrating your 32nd birthday, which I’ll be doing on the 2nd.

Happy April, everybody. Enjoy.

Cameron Hughes Lot 171 - Sonoma County Meritage 2008

I like this wine for the exact reasons why some wine reviewers don’t. It’s not a full-bodied tannin-heavy Meritage meant for aging, and it’s not your everyday medium bodied Meritage either.

It’s mellow, easily approachable and ready to drink now. It’s as light and soft as a Pinot Noir while still showing the Merlot and Petite Verdot that make up most of its blend.

A silky texture carries through out the wine and its finish. Cherries, plum and mandarin orange are all on the nose and the pallet… but it’s the cedar and menthol that reel me in and keep me sniffing and sipping.

A nice wine for March, as we start shuffling our way out of winter and heading into spring.

Chocolat Rouge

This is not the chocolate-milk-appearing chocolate wine that you’re accustomed to. This one looks like wine and tastes like wine. Imagine biting into a piece of dark chocolate and washing it down with a nice, red blend. Some will compare it to chocolate cherries. Smooth, rich, delicious and not too sweet. And, don’t forget, at a surprisingly affordable price. Perfect match with Valentine’s Day roses!
