Q: What wines go with what foods??
A: This is one of our favorite questions, because - simply put - it's sort of up to you! As a general rule, we always suggest not to purchase a wine simply because it supposedly goes with whatever food you're cooking. You've got to make it your first priority to purchase a wine that you enjoy drinking. That having been said, you've got to basic options when pairing a wine with a food; does the wine compliment the food by similarity, or by contrast? Sometimes a sweet wine goes great with spicy food, to help offset that sensory component, but sometimes you want an equally robust, spicy wine! Our best suggestion is to talk to us; we don't bite! Each of our stores has a Fine Wine Manager who - among other things - is great at finding a wine that you enjoy that goes well with the food you're having. If you're in a pinch, a nifty tool is available right on the Gallo website by clicking Here. This application lacks the personal touches that our Fine Wine Managers might be able to apply (particularly if you've already built a relationship with them, and they know what types of wines you enjoy), but it's a good basic starting point! Also, by checking our Newsletter, you might find a handy food pairing in there that meets your needs!
Q: What causes red wine headaches?
A: This is a tricky question we tackled a while back, when the website was first refurbished in April of 2009. We found this article that we think covers the topic thoroughly, which can be found Here.
Q: Do you deliver?
A: Yes, we do! Typically our delivery service is used for Cape Cod weddings, parties, corporate events, or other large gatherings, where the customer has purchased more wine & other beverages than they can fit in their vehicle. In fact; did you know that there's a legal limit to how much alcohol can be transported in a personal vehicle without proper licensing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts? Individuals can transport alcohol without a license, up to but not exceeding, twenty gallons of malt beverages, three gallons of any other alcoholic beverage, or one gallon of alcohol at a single time. But why worry about doing the math when one of our licensed vehicles can transport it for you! Delivery fees do apply in some cases; see stores for details.
Q: How many beers are in a keg??
A: That all depends on what type of keg! There are three major types of kegs that we sell here at Luke's: the 1/2 barrel, the 1/4 barrel, and the 1/6 barrel or pony keg. The traditional 15.5 U.S. 1/2 barrel is what you might think of as a traditional, "full size" keg. The 1/2 barrel of beer contains approximately 165 12oz portions of beer, the 1/4 barrel contains approximately 75 12oz portions of beer, and the 1/6 barrel contains approximately 55 12oz portions of beer.
